The gymnasium built in the 2nd cent. A.D., comprised a large central hall decorated with statues, and an altar where sacrifices were offeres to Artemis and to Antoninus Pius. Yhe various rooms were heated by a series of hypocausts. The Gymnasium was entered through a monumental doorway leading into a courtyard surrounded by colonnades. To the W. of the courtyard you can still see the latrines, built of marble and in quite a good state of preservation. The floor of the ceremonial hall, in which tha altar stood, was cavered with mosaic and the walls were faced with marble. In the western part of the gymnasium were the various bathing rooms:apodyterium, tepidarium, caldarium and frigidarium.
