The Stadium in Ephesus: About 750 ft. long and 100 ft. wide, the stadium was probably built in the reign of Nero, in the 1st cent. A.D. The monumental gateway, however, appears to date from the 3rd or 4th cent. Built over the N. slope of Mount Pion, the whole of the right part of the stadium rests on levelled rock, while the left part was supported by powerful substructures. Borings made below the Roman level revealed traces of the stadium built in the time of Lysimachus, which must have been smaller.
